Welcome to Gallery Anisoptera

My name is Bailey Hannoch and this is my art …

SOLSTICE-300x280.jpg

As far back as memory permits, I’ve held fascination with the proverbial bright and shiny things that oft involve geometry and vibrancy as common facets. As well, I’m also intrigued by what remains invisible to the naked eye-the realms of which we can only speculate and lie parallel or adjacent to our own. The symmetry and colors of nature have always captivated my psyche, and forever captivated by how luminescent/ iridescent qualities manifest within the natural world. Finding myself in awe of those things in our reality that transcend the mundane, and speak to what exists beyond the material, I am driven to emulate aesthetic forms dominating this physical universe in both their geometry and spirit. It is those things that prompt us to consider that the animal, vegetable and mineral in its own vibrancy portrays a depth and frequency, or spiritual essence unique in and of itself.

My world, the one you see before you in the pieces I have presented, is broken down into frequency and emotion. Thematically, it is about broadening the definition of ourselves so repeatedly rooted in the roles we play and the habits we keep. Developing an appreciation for the core of our being through self-acceptance in spite of our individual and collective fears is what has moved me historically as both therapist and artist.

I hold liberty, expression, and authenticity right next to compassion and wisdom in the highest regard. My hope is to provide those viewing what I have produced with incentive and inspiration to conjure and heed their own creative instinct and inventive spirit. Although admittedly I love to share my own creations, few things give me more satisfaction than to know others have found their own truth- in their own expression. I believe it is this process that catalyzes the likelihood of our collective enhancement as a species. What makes us free and human, ultimately, is our art.

INSPIRATION-300x264.jpg

In fact, it is for this reason I have elected to use the Latin, “Anisoptera”, (Dragonfly) as the namesake for my gallery. It is the Dragonfly that so perfectly encapsulates all of my aforementioned intrigue, and what I strive to produce in my own illustrations. It is truly ancient, and has seen very little change in its overall structure the past 200-300 million years since its inception. Anisoptera is the quintessence of iridescence, symmetry, poise and visual prowess rarely matched in the natural world and has long been revered symbolically in many world cultures and traditions.

All of the paintings presented in the gallery are oil pastel on deep edge canvas, with dimensions predominately 24X48, 36X36 or 40X40.

Thanks for visiting and happy viewing!!
